Hello Twins’ Fans. Sorry for not writing anything for nearly three weeks (although I’ve just written a few back-dated blog entries to make up for it). Both myself and Wendy-Ann have been very busy with things at work and home.
At work we were involved in a big anniversary. The IBM labs at Hursley has been celebrating its 50th year. We were both involved in the organisation for some customer and press events. It went well with some good coverage from the BBC and Sky.
At home I’ve spent the last week doing some DIY. I took the week off work to convert our dining room window to this, and finally this. A bit scary when at 4pm on a Monday I still had a huge hole in the side of the house.
So apologies for not adding any blog entries recently. We’ll be adding a few more (back dated) and adding some long awaited photos very soon. By the way… the boys are doing great.
Today we went into town early to sell some of the boys old clothes and baby things at a NCT sale. It’s a good place to sell things because a percentage of the money goes to charity, and we can donate any other items which means they get a good home instead of ending up in a land fill site.
Whilst we were there we popped into John Lewis, which is inside the large local shopping mall, to buy some curtains for our dining room.
We brought some reigns so we could let the boys have a run around in a controlled manner. Well Darrah did. Blake stayed in his buggy and had a good sleep.
It was very strange using the reigns. I found myself calling out instructions to Darrah as if he were a dog. He didn’t listen to a word I said. He didn’t roll-over, sit or fetch although he did bite a shop assistant and start cocking his leg against the perfume counter.
Because the boys were born so prematurely most of their milestones, weights, measurements and other bits and pieces have been measured using their adjusted birth date, the day they were due. Originally they were due on the 30th of September but we think Darrah got bored and thought, with just over nine weeks to go, that he’d bite his brother. It then all kicked off and the rest is history.
So today we celebrated their other birthday. It was a more subdued affair, in that we didn’t have a party or presents or anything actually. So in a sense we celebrated it as though it was any other day. But then again… it’s the thought that counts.
Both Darrah and Blake love walking around, usually in opposite directions, investigating the house and all the dangerous places they shouldn’t go. Darrah particular loves his walker. He never gets bored of going up and down, up and down, up and down, up and down, up and… you get the idea!
He can get quite upset if his brother tries to intervene or a stationary object, like a wall, appears from nowhere and stops his progress. Actually, he’s very good at steering it. He knows how to turn it around and face it in the opposite direction. Just as well because at the speed he pushes it he can cover the full length of the house in under half a second.
The boys are starting to become a lot more vocal. No proper words yet but the variety of sounds is increasing. We started trying to guess what their first words might be. Hopefully they’ll start by saying something like “Daddy” or “Mummy” or maybe each other’s names. Unfortunately for them their names are probably not the easiest things to pronounce. Instead of “Darrah” and “Blake” I suspect it’s going to sound more like “Rahrah” and “Bake”.
As you probably already know from the last blog entry Bake Blake has been unwell over the last couple of days. He’s doing a lot better although we’ve kept him at home today to get his full strength back, whilst his brother went to nursery. Blake will probably be home for Tuesday as well but should be back at nursery on Wednesday.
When I went to nursery this afternoon to collect Darrah I was reminded by the nursery staff that Darrah has a habit of trying to eat everything. We’ve known about this for a while now. He’ll try to eat toys, remote controls, his cot and his brother. This is never in a malicious way. We think he just likes pressing things against his teeth as it could be offering him some comfort from his teething pains. I didn’t think that this was really a problem until today when I was told about the new item he’s recently enjoyed biting. He started biting a chair. Doesn’t sound too bad does it? But what if I told you that this chair was a special chair, that belonged to a child with special needs and Darrah has been biting chunks out of the foam supports at the back of it!! This could prove very embarrassing. What if the parents found out that our child has been eating, and almost finished eating, their child’s specially built chair?
My fear is that in a week or two’s time those parents will go to the nursery to collect their child and find this grinning boy approach them with a mouth full of support foam, who’ll spit it out and utter his first words…. “Me called Rahrah, me eat everything!
